We've fallen head over heels for Snow Mushroom
Otherwise known as Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp it is one of our new "must have" ingredients in skincare! We'll stick with the name Snow Mushroom in this article as it's a much prettier name (and quite frankly, easier to type!).
Also referred to as the Silver-Eared Mushroom and grown in Asia, it's sought for culinary uses and is known for its ancient medicinal uses in Asia, especially in ancient China. It's actually a very beautiful mushroom, almost translucent and undulating like satin ribbons!
That's all well and good, but how does this benefit our skin?
Primarily: Polysaccharides! We've all heard about the hydrating hallmarks of Hyaluronic Acid. Well, Hyaluronic Acid is a Polysaccharide and is the primary reason for its ability to bind water to the skin (humectant). Snow Mushroom is also a Polysaccharide, and (drum roll please) much more hydrating, multifunctional, and moisturizing than Hyaluronic Acid! Snow Mushroom is a better hydrator than Hyaluronic Acid--and more. I'm sure this has peaked your interest!
Snow Mushroom is especially wonderful for those with dehydrated skin, and also can help with itchiness associated with dry skin. Considered a wonderful anti-aging ingredient, it not only plumps the skin but deeply hydrates. But, oily skin types will also enjoy the hydration as it is oil-free.
While Hyaluronic Acid is a lovely humectant (and we will certainly continue using it in many of our formulas), Snow Mushroom is much more multifaceted!

- Because the molecule is smaller, it penetrates the skin even better than Hyaluronic acid. Oh, the plumping and smoothing!

- Oil free therefore it is good for break-out prone skin also (non-comedogenic)

What is not to love? We've started incorporating Snow Mushroom in many of our formulas. Our Drench & Quench, 10% Niacinamide, Creamy Bakuchiol Serum and many of our moisturizers will have the lovely extract of Snow Mushroom in them.
